About Us

Innovative, Skilled & Original

Community based mobile mental health occupational therapy services.

At Be Well Occupational Therapy, we like to do one thing and do it well. That “one thing” is supporting mental health and psychosocial disabilities. We say “one thing” but it’s really an enormous part of essential healthcare, with many different presentations, diagnoses and unique opportunities and challenges.

Would you want your GP to take your appendix out? Probably not. The same sentiment rings true for allied health. To know a “general gist” isn’t good enough. People living with mental health and psychosocial disabilities require and deserve clinicians with highly developed skills and specific expertise, relevant to their disabilities.

What We Do

Experienced and Skilled Clinicians

Yes, we look alarmingly fresh faced and enthusiastic, but believe it or not, the OTs at Be Well Occupational Therapy have a combined 50 years of mental health and psychosocial specific clinical experience. Our OTs have been busy! They’ve worked in acute inpatient mental health units, subacute/extended inpatient mental health units, secure forensic units, residential mental health rehab, community based mental health occupational therapy, and mental health case management. Told ya, pretty busy! Our clinical support team are also highly versed in healthcare lingo and know a thing or two about the industry. They know what it’s like to support clients through stressful times.

Services

  • Our go-to and “best seller” (we’re looking at you, NDIS). A functional capacity assessment is a review of a client’s functioning in the context of any mental health of psychosocial disabilities to identify what support they may need to work towards their goals and build capacity. We provide a comprehensive FCA report to be reviewed by the clients, NDIS stakeholder team and the NDIA.

  • Ah, the elusive “sensory” word. Let us demystify it for you. We provide tailored assessments and sensory modulation plans to support emotional regulation, using sensory, stimuli and body-based strategies. Learn to “hack” your nervous system and override your physiological responses when your nervous system or alertness levels just aren’t co-operating.

  • One of our favourites– the part where we dive in together and do the work! Work with our OTs, at a frequency of your choosing (e.g. fortnightly, monthly), to use cognitive, environmental, and assistive technology strategies to build your capacity and work towards your goals. Occupational Therapy sessions can range from parenting to catching the bus, you name it, we’ll see what we can do.

  • Oh so important. We provide psychoeducation and support for both formal and informal supports to support occupational therapy interventions and our clients’ support needs. We have developed brand new “occupational support profile” documents for support worker teams to make sense of support needs in a quick “snapshot” and to make sure support is “pitched” at the right level to best support our clients.

  • Allied health assistants operate under the direction and supervision of our occupational therapists. With the occupational therapists being the clients first port for complex treatment, care tasks or administrative duties, it allows the AHA's to focus on more complex direct care and 1:1 skill building. Their responsibilities encompass face-to-face sessions like transport training, cooking, organisation and social skills, as well as non face-to-face tasks such as creating client resources and ensuring our OT's are up to date on the latest evidence.

  • The mandatory stuff! As we all know, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a requirement and just like everything else at Be Well OT, we like to make things easy, streamlined and accessible, which is why we also provide Clinical Supervision!

Finding a supervisor can be very similar to finding the right therapist, which is why we aim to provide you with the right clinical supervisor for you! With over 50 years worth of experience within this team, we know that we bring helpful, useful and resourceful knowledge to support you throughout your career.

  • Need a robust assessment for a complex client? Bring it on. We have lots of experience completing comprehensive ILO and SIL reports for clients that require a larger level of support to maintain their safety, functioning and goals. In fact, in 2022, we completed approximately 30 SIL reports, where we outlined the clinical need for 24/7 care and have completed MANY more since then.

  • The bricks and mortar. We complete SDA assessment and reports for those clients who require specialist disability accommodation to support their goals. We work with clients who may have a severe and persistent mental illness or complex psychosocial disability which may mean they need robust housing or improved liveability features.

Beware, we don’t provide SDA reports for the “fully accessible” or “high physical support” criteria because... staying in our mental health and psychosocial lane, remember?

  • We commenced easy-to-use and effective telehealth services thanks to that pesky thing called Covid-19 and we have kept it around! We now provide ongoing support for clients who simply prefer telehealth, clients who are interstate and we have it as an option for clients that may find it difficult to leave the home due to their disabilities. We don't promise we don’t wear pyjamas on bottom..

Community Engagement

We do a lot at Be Well OT! But we’re not finished. Throughout the years that we have been established, it’s imperative to us that we use our skills and understanding for good, and that means to give back to the community. Since our establishment, we’ve been involved with Walks for Mental Health, International Women’s Day events and even hosted our own Charity Gala.

We’re always looking out for opportunities to get involved and give back, so keep your eyes peeled for our next initiative.
