February, 2025
Welcome to the February Debrief! Get the 411 on settling into the new year with good habits, read our melodious client feature and get up to speed on our recent lego-based therapy inservice. The answer to last month’s OTeaser was ‘Mindfulness’ congratulations to those who got it.
BACK TO BUSINESS: BUILDING HABITS THAT STICK
As the year kicks into gear, it’s time to focus on routines that support your goals and well-being. Returning to work after a break can feel overwhelming, but a strong routine turns chaos into calm and helps to reduce burnout.
As mental health OTs, routines are more than just schedules — they’re tools to conserve energy, set boundaries, find mindfulness and maintain consistency when life becomes hectic. Building a routine starts with identifying what matters most and addressing barriers. Small, meaningful changes, like a consistent wake-up time or moments for self-care, add up.
Our OTs excel at tailoring routines to fit your life, helping you move from “just getting by” to thriving. Ready to take the first step? Have an end goal in mind, start small, stay consistent, and watch those tiny habits grow into big changes.
Here’s to a balanced February!
A HARMONIOUS CLIENT FEATURE
OT Clare’s remarkable client Mike has always enjoyed playing guitar and performing at gigs with his band.
But recently Mike has started recording his own music in a recording studio with assistance from his support worker who also shares a keen interest in music production. Not only has he started creating his own music but writing his own stories too!
Luckily for Clare, Mike is always keen to share his latest story or song with his OT!
BUILDING CAPACITY ONE BRICK AT A TIME:
LEGO-BASED THERAPY INSERVICE
Recently our team took part in a Lego Based Therapy Inservice lead by our Director Heather and Clinical Lead Jess.
Initially learnt at last year’s OTA Mental Health Forum, the team discovered how Lego Based Therapy, from OTs implementing it in forensic settings, can build an individual’s capacity through occupation.
The team discussed the transferrable skills built through Lego based therapy including communication, social skills, and problem solving. It just goes to show how dynamic and creative occupational therapy can be.
Time for everybody’s favourite part of The Debrief…. Why it’s the OTeaser of course!
Riddle Me This:
I shape your day without a thought,
Reinforced by things you’ve been taught.
I make change hard, yet help you grow,
Repeat me daily, and progress will show!
