Sensory assessments are critical in evaluating sensory processing and integration for functional capacity in mental health occupational therapy. Evaluations can include clinical observations, caregiver questionnaires, and standardised testing.
We assess sensory modulation, praxis, discrimination, perception, integration, and other motor skills. This includes balance, bilateral motor co-ordination, and posture, and it helps therapists identify motor and sensory elements impacting personal autonomy development.
Numerous sensory assessment tests are available. Evaluations can include an adolescent and adult sensory profile – a self-evaluation of responses to everyday sensory experiences informing the impact of functional performance on sensory processing.
Testing can also include an Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) including 20 process and 16 motor items – an observational evaluation; a standardised Motor-Free Visual Perception Test (MVPT), a Sensory Integration and Praxis Test (SIPT) to measure underlying sensory integration processes, and the Vineyard Adaptive Behavior Scales (Vineland-II or VABS) – designed to assess adaptive behaviour from birth to age 90. Among many other options, assessments can include School Functional Assessments (SFA) and handwriting legibility and speed.
Our passionate and compassionate team are qualified to conduct comprehensive sensory assessments, even in complex cases, available privately or via the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). So, contact us for experienced insight and guidance – we look forward to hearing from you.
