    Heather has a passion for mental health care and her mission and drive is to normalise and modernise mental health care. She knew early on she wanted to focus on mental health occupational therapy so she gained experience in acute, subacute, rehabilitation, community, forensic, clinical liaison and intensive case management mental health roles.

    When working in the public sector, Heather was an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner which means she has an in depth understanding of the Mental Health Act 2016. Working in mental health, and the disability sectors, also means Heather is experienced in working with adults with intellectual impairments or ASD. Heather works with adults (and 17 year olds transitioning to adult services) who have mental health and/or psychosocial disabilities.

    Heather uses a trauma informed and recovery approach, and also uses techniques such as motivational interviewing, cognitive remediation, exposure and response prevention, while goal setting with clients to focus on what’s important to them.

    Heather’s constitution is 20% water/ 80% iced mochas. Sheloves podcasts, reading and her cat!

    Clare has been practicing as a mental health occupational therapist for four years and has always had a special interest in working with clients who experience mental health challenges. Clare has experience supporting clients with severe and persistent mental illness in the community in a case management role and in mental health residential rehabilitation. She also has specific experience working with clients who may experience psychosis as part of their mental health journey. Clare is a trauma informed practitioner and she prioritises a recovery focused and collaborative process when working alongside her clients. Clare is undertaking further training in Cognitive Rehabilitation via La Trobe University to continue growing her skill set.

    Outside of work, you’ll find Clare spending time outdoors in nature, going bike riding, bush walking and spending time with her puppy.

    Jess is an occupational therapist who is passionate about working in mental health. From early on, she knew that sitting behind a desk in an office wasn’t for her. As a mental health specific OT, Jess supports people through a range of occupations from grocery shopping and self- care to fishing and soccer. Jess has experience in acute mental health, transitional housing teams, and mental health case management, with specific experience in older persons mental health. Jess also has experience working with adults with ASD and PDA (pathological demand avoidance). Jess uses a trauma informed approach and incorporates sensory modulation in her sessions to support clients’ emotional regulation and functional capacity. Jess is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) informed and undertaking additional training to work towards DBT credentials.

    Jess loves running, finding this the best way to clear her mind. Food is the way to her heart and a good cup of coffee is how she likes to start her day.

    Kaitlin is passionate about mental health and advocacy, so a mental health OT was the perfect role for her. Kaitlin challenges herself to think big, challenge assumptions and strive for great outcomes. Kaitlin has experience supporting clients with severe and persistent mental illness in the community in a case management role and also specific experience supporting clients who may experience psychosis as part of their mental health journey. Kaitlin has in depth knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2016 and primary health care pathways. Kaitlin also has specific skills and interest in supporting adults with ASD to reach their functional goals. In her clinical practice, Kaitlin works with a trauma informed approach and incorporates sensory modulation and functional approaches to support people to engage in everyday tasks such as shopping, maintaining housing, art, parenting and relationships. Kaitlin’s ingenuity also extends beyond her clinical work - she has taken a lead role in managing Be Well OTs fundraising projects to support the broader mental health community.

    Outside of work, she prioritises exercise and moving her body; you’ll see her at fun runs, marathons and fitness challenges.
